weekly 60 minute class
Ages: 6 - 10
What to Expect?
SCMT jr. is a great early musical theater class for a less intense, smaller group experience (approximately 20 kids). SCMT Jr is a prerequisite for children 8 & 9 years old before they can enroll in SCMT.
The SCMT jr. casts will put on a full, 20-30 minute Fall and Spring musical with simple props and set, as well as perform a couple of their numbers in our Fall SCMT Showcase.
Each student is given the opportunity for a speaking part, and encouraged to participate unless strongly opposed. SCMT jr. members will grow in their abilities to sing, dance, and act as an ensemble, working together to tell a story!
Designed as a semester experience, enrollment from fall to spring in SCMT Jr is ongoing; once enrolled you stay a member unless you un-enroll, which can be done in January. Spring session spots may be limited and are based on availability.

Monday @ 5:00-6:00pm

Tuition: $75 per month + $35 materials fee
NOTE: The materials fee is charged at the beginning of each semester. It covers music, scripts, SCMT t-shirt (new to SCMT), copies of our professional show video & photos for the Fall Showcase, as well as any other materials for the year.

Ages: 8 - 11
What to Expect?
SCMT for 8-11 year olds is primarily for those who have done SCMT shows previously. If your child is 8 or 9 and you are new to us, we encourage you to try out our SCMT jr. program as an intro to SCMT.
SCMT 8-11 year olds will spend the fall semester preparing numbers for the Fall 2025 SCMT Showcase, which will premier prior to Thanksgiving Break (November 24-28th). Following break, directors will help prepare SCMT members to audition for the mainstage Spring Musical in May 2026. Auditions for the Spring show will occur in early December.
Each week, SCMT Cast Members will rotate through varied, key areas of musical theater - music, acting & dance sessions - to prepare for the showcase. While the 8-11 year old rehearsals overlap the older 12-18 year old cast, the groups are unique and will be preparing their own numbers, appropriate to their age group and level. (Casts for the Spring will be comprised of all SCMT members ages 8-18, see below for additional details)

OUR SCMT JR. 2025 FALL SHOW
On with the Snow!
If cold weather makes you shiver to and fro, you'll love our COOL show about friendship and SNOW! Hep 2 3 4! Hep 2 3 4! Here come the Shovelers, ready to go where shovels have never gone before. And now – a BIG round of applause for the stars of our show – those friendly, furry monsters – the Abominable Snowman, and his buddies Bigfoot and Sasquatch with their high-kicking dance moves! Don't judge a monster by its fur! Learn how real warmth starts from within and can spread like a blizzard when shared with a song! This 25-minute holiday musical features five original songs and easy-to-learn rhyming dialog with over 30 speaking parts
SCMT Jr. will perform one musical near the end of the Fall semester and one near the end of the Spring semester. These productions are 20-30 minutes in length with roles for each child that involve some singing, dancing and acting.
The musicals chosen for this group are appropriate for their age range and development. In an environment that is engaging and fun, kids will learn about working together to put on a show through exploring the aspects of singing, acting and choreography! They will wear basic costumes and use simple props & set pieces. SCMT jr. will give children ages 6-10 a great musical theater foundation that will prepare them for the more rigorous SCMT program (kids 8-18 years old).

Based on one of Roald Dahl’s most poignantly quirky stories, Roald Dahl's James and the Giant Peach JR. is a brand new take on this "masterpeach" of a tale. Featuring a wickedly tuneful score and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic.
When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of disagreements along the way.
The possibilities for creative costuming and puppetry abound, and young actors will love playing the outlandish and larger-than-life human and insect characters.
