weekly 60 minute class
Ages: 6 - 9
What to Expect?
Fashioned after popular previous MCF offerings (Hats, It's a Jungle out There, & Broadway Beginnings), SCMT jr. is a great early musical theater class for a less intense, smaller group experience (approximately 15 kids).
The SCMT jr. casts will put on a full, 20-30 minute Fall and Spring musical with simple props and set, as well as perform a couple of their numbers in our Fall SCMT Showcase. These fun musicals will be announced soon!
Designed as a semester experience, enrollment from fall to spring in SCMT Jr is ongoing; once enrolled you stay a member unless you un-enroll, which can be done in January. Spring session spots may be limited and are based on availability.

NOTE: The materials fee is charged at the beginning of each semester. It covers music, scripts, most costume pieces, SCMT t-shirt (new to SCMT), copies of our professional show video & photos, as well as any other materials for the year. Additional siblings enrolled in the same class will get a half price discount on their materials fee.
Tuition: $75 per month + $35 materials fee

What to Expect?
SCMT for 8-10 year olds is primarily for those who have done SCMT shows previously (most recently - Aladdin Kids, Mary Poppins Jr, Spoonful of Christmas, Willy Wonka...). If your child is 8 or 9 and you are new to us, we encourage you to try out our SCMT jr. program as an intro to SCMT.
SCMT 8-10 year olds will spend the fall semester preparing numbers for the Fall 2023 SCMT Showcase, which will premier prior to Thanksgiving Break. Following break, directors will help prepare SCMT members to audition for the mainstage Spring Musical in May 2024. Auditions for the Spring show will occur in early December.
Each week, SCMT Cast Members will rotate through varied, key areas of musical theater - music, acting & dance sessions - to prepare for the showcase. While the 8-10 year old rehearsals overlap the older 11-16 year old cast, the groups are unique and will be preparing their own numbers, appropriate to their age group and level. (Casts for the Spring will be comprised of all SCMT members ages 8-16, see below for additional details)

Rats the Musical
Rats! The town of Hamelin is overrun with them and the citizens are in a tizzy until the mysterious Pied Piper appears, offering to solve their dilemma for a small fee. Dave and Jean Perry tell the story like never before in this fast-paced musical setting. The characters are charming, the dialog is witty and the songs are clever and fun to sing!

SCMT Jr. will perform one musical near the end of the Fall semester and one near the end of the Spring semester. These productions are 20-30 minutes in length with roles for each child that involve some singing, dancing and acting.
The musicals chosen for this group are appropriate for their age range and development. In an environment that is engaging and fun, kids will learn about working together to put on a show through exploring the aspects of singing, acting and choreography! They will wear basic costumes and use simple props & set pieces. SCMT jr. will give children ages 6-9 a great musical theater foundation that will prepare them for the more rigorous SCMT program (kids 8-16 years old).

FALL SHOWCASE 2023
We are SO excited for this Fall 2023 Showcase because it will feature each of our different SCMT groups! The SCMT Show-Stoppers dance class, SCMT Jr. cast, SCMT 8-10 year olds and the SCMT 11-16 year olds will ALL perform numbers in this fun show!
The expansion of our offerings at Studio Connect Musical Theater will lay a great foundation for all aspects of musical theater! We are indeed studio CONNECT, and we strive to make CONNECTIONS with your family, your child(ren), and to create a true SCMT community where all can shine. We LOVE your kids and families, and we LOVE that your children support one another. This will be a memorable show for kids of all ages & stages to celebrate & "showcase" the work they have accomplished!

After our Fall Showcase we will begin learning about auditions and preparing for for our Spring Musical.
School year Enrollment is ongoing in SCMT; once enrolled you stay a member from fall to spring unless you un-enroll, which can be done between semesters in January. Spring session spots (for those wanting only to participate in the Spring semester) will be limited and are based on availability.
While the 8-10 and 11-16 year olds will rehearse separately in the Fall semester (and perform unique numbers in the showcase), they will be placed into casts of combined ages for the Spring Musical. In other words, the SCMT Spring Musical will consist of 8-16 year old casts.
There will be two casts of the same musical - the Tuesday & the Wednesday cast. The session you sign up for right now (for fall) does not have to be the cast you are in for Spring. You will have the option (in December) to note your availability on your audition form - Tuesday only, Wednesday only, or both days. This just allows us to cast you in the group we see best fit. If you are only available one of the times, that works - we will place you in that cast.
OUR SPRING 2024 MUSICAL is...
L. Frank Baum’s beloved story of a young girl’s adventure in a magical land has been entertaining audiences for over a century. MGM’s blockbuster 1939 film adaptation, featuring the timeless songs of Harold Arlen and E.Y. Harburg, along with the brilliant instrumental music of Herbert Stothart, elevated the popular novel to even greater heights. This stage adaptation, featuring the characters and celebrated songs from the film, brings the wondrous Land of Oz to life in a jubilant theatrical experience.
Join Dorothy and her loyal companion Toto as they “Follow the Yellow Brick Road” through the Land of Oz, determined to reach the Emerald City, where the great and powerful Wizard of Oz will help them get home. Of course, along the way, Dorothy encounters witches (both good and bad), Munchkins, talking trees and winged monkeys. But most importantly, she befriends three unique characters: a Scarecrow with no brain, a Tin Man with no heart, and a Lion with no “nerve.” Their journey to happiness – and self-awareness – is a glowing testament to friendship, understanding and hope in a world filled with both beauty and ugliness.
Everyone in the fall session of SCMT is guaranteed a spot in the Spring Show. Auditions are optional but are for those interested in trying for a speaking role or a solo. Auditions will be December 12 and 13 for those registered for SCMT Spring 2024.

SCMT JR. SPRING SHOW...
Our SCMT Jr. kids will also do their very own production of The Wizard of Oz in the Spring!
This cast is perfect for kids new to theater, those who prefer a smaller cast size, or those wishing to have more stage time.
There will be no auditions, register to join! Those doing SCMT Jr. this Fall are guaranteed a spot in the Spring. Kids in SCMT Jr. who turn ten during the year are welcome to stay in Jr. if preferred.

Private or Group Lessons are a great way to become more confident with the skills you use in musical theatre - acting, singing, dancing... and everything in between! We would love to work with your child one-on-one or in a small group of peers to help them develop their technique for the theatre! Feel free to reach out with questions.
