Tech Camp

Ages 12-17

WHAT TO EXPECT: Have a kid who loves to create, build, draw, paint, problem solve and/or organize? There is a lot more to putting on a show than what is seen on stage!

While some kids love to sing and dance in front of an audience, others love using their creative side to produce and work behind the scenes. Technical theater includes areas such as dramaturg, sound, lighting, make-up, and advertising as well as design, construction, and management of props, set, and costumes. In this camp we will explore some of these areas and even try some of them out ourselves. While character and ensemble groups are working on lines, choreo, and blocking, the Behind the Scenes campers will learn about the technical aspects of the show that make it all come together. These campers will try their hand at set and prop design, costuming, and stage managing. They will help create some props for the show, shop for costume pieces, and together design and paint a backdrop. Then, each day, they will join back up with the rest of the cast for small groups, snack time, and other fun camp activities.

The final week of camp, they will help make the show come to life by becoming the backstage crew. By managing props, costumes and set pieces and helping with scene changes they will make all the magic happen behind the scenes.

This camp will run in sync with SCMT Performance Camp for ages 12-16 in both June and July.

Camp I: June 16-27 12:30-3:30pm (no camp 6/21 or 6/22)

Performances: June 27 at 3pm and 7pm

Camp II: July 14-25 12:30-3:30pm (no camp 7/19 or 7/20)

Performances: July 25 at 3pm and 7pm

Cost: $254

WHAT TO EXPECT: Have a kid who loves musical theater
and has a knack for helping out younger children? Then this camp might be just for them! Jr. Directors will get to shadow our directors and assist with various production aspects (props, set, backstage logistics) while serving as role models for our younger performers.

Campers will not only get to do behind the scenes work but will also get to help teach and lead the younger kids as they learn their music, lines, choreography and blocking.

Jr. Directors will have a dedicated adult director who guides them and teaches them HOW to be a “Jr. Director.” Jr. Directors will also help “run” the backstage logistics during the final rehearsals and performances!

This camp will run in sync with SCMT Performance Camp for ages 8-11 in both June and July.

Camp I: June 16-27 8:30-11:00am (no camp 6/21 or 6/22)
